PK.GM.2.1
PK.GM.2.1 Identify measurable attributes of objects. Describe them as little, big, long, short, tall, heavy, light, or other age-appropriate vocabulary.
In a Nutshell
This objective focuses on helping students make observations about the world around them using their own vocabulary. By the end of the year, students should be using math-focused vocabulary in every day and instructional conversations to describe the characteristics of objects. Students will be able to use these vocabulary words to describe objects in groups as they encounter them in learning and play.

Teacher Actions
|
-
Advance mathematical reasoning by developing appropriate math vocabulary for measurable attributes.
-
Communicate mathematically by using mathematical vocabulary to describe the attributes of various objects.
|
-
Connect mathematical representations by modeling and using math-focused vocabulary in conversation with students.
-
Facilitate meaningful math discourse by providing opportunities for students to talk and use math vocabulary.
-
Promote reasoning and problem-solving by providing opportunities for students to use a measurable attribute in a sentence. For example, using a sentence frame for the students to fill in during a center.
