K.GM.2.1
K.GM.2.1 Use words to compare objects according to length, size, weight, position, and location.
In a Nutshell
This objective helps students build their mathematical vocabulary and ability to compare. Through daily conversation in their centers and lessons, students should be able to talk about objects and compare them. Students will be exposed to and become comfortable with using words such as longer, shorter, bigger, smaller, heavier, lighter, next to, under, on, etc.
Student Actions

Teacher Actions
|
-
Communicate mathematically by using words to compare two objects by length, size, weight, position, or location.
-
Develop mathematical reasoning by comparing various objects in order to determine longest/shortest, heaviest/lightest, tallest/shortest, etc.
|
-
Focus learning by introducing, modeling, and encouraging comparative vocabulary.
-
Build conceptual understanding by providing multiple opportunities for students to compare objects and discuss in groups.
-
Facilitate meaningful discourse by encouraging students to explain their thinking using comparative words such as longest/shortest, biggest/smallest, heaviest/ lightest in/out, etc.
