In a Nutshell

Counting objects in an organized way is a process for Pre-K students. Some students enter Pre-K with no strategies to keep this information organized in their heads. By the end of the year, Pre-K students should be able to count up to 5 objects, no matter the arrangement.

Misconceptions

  • Each object is counted once. 
  • It is beneficial to count in an organized manner (top to bottom, clockwise , etc.) to keep track of what has been counted and what has not.
  • Counting objects more than once. 
  • Skipping over an object while counting.
