3.D.1.1 Summarize and construct a data set with multiple categories using a frequency table, line plot, pictograph, and/or bar graph with scaled intervals.


In a Nutshell

This objective gives students the opportunity to learn how to create a graph with data that is given in a set. They will learn how to title and label their graph accurately and how to determine the best scale based on the data that is presented to them. They will not only need to know what the different types of graphs are, but they will also need to determine the best graph to represent the data. From there, they make generalizations based on the data in their graph.

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding when constructing a graph using appropriate scaled intervals based on the data provided.

  • Develop procedural fluency as they accurately and logically label, title and scale their graphs based on collected data.

  • Make conjectures based on the data that is given.

  • Pose purposeful questions to help students recall prior knowledge and justify their thinking. Questions may include: How do we determine the labels and titles for our graphs? What can we conclude based on our data? Which graph would represent our data the most effectively?
