As students continue their formal education experience in third grade, the emphasis will be to continue to develop and target Numbers and Operations, Algebraic Reasoning and Algebra, Geometry and Measurement, and Data and Probability. Students will take those skills learned in second grade and expand on them. It is very important that these topics be addressed, explored, and made to connect to situations in the world around them, using a variety of activities/lessons. The activities/lessons should warrant hands-on opportunities while also promoting problem solving, reasoning, modeling, questioning, and generalizing. These skills will prepare them for extensions of similar skills in fourth grade.
